PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Johnson Consulting was retained by the Utah Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) to undertake an independent best practices assessment and competitive positioning review of the Utah Valley’s meetings market. The Provo/ Orem metropolitan area consistently ranks near the top of national polls in terms of desirable places to live, work and play. Utah’s ‘Silicon Slopes’ in the northern part of Utah Valley is leading the world in innovative technology and data analysis, bringing thousands of jobs to the local area and expanding at approximately five-times the rate of the national economy. Provo affords easy access to the national parks and canyon country of southern Utah, as well as the mountains and ski resorts in the northern part of the state. Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University also bring many cultural and sporting events to the community.

Our scope was focused on prioritizing community roles based upon the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats present in Utah Valley’s meetings market. Specifically, our report included comprehensive reviews of the management and performance of the CVB and Convention Center, an analysis of current and likely future market and industry trends, and benchmarking against competitive and comparable organizations and facilities. Our report served to define best practice strategies to assist the CVB and Convention Center, along with the Marriott Hotel, in working collaboratively to maintain and grow the Utah Valley’s position within the meetings market.
