PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The St. Louis Blues were in the planning stages of developing a premier sports complex in St. Louis County that would serve as both the practice facility for the St. Louis Blues as well as a premier multi-sports indoor facility capable of hosting regional and national ice sports events. The 246,000 square foot facility would include four NHL regulation size ice sheets as well as support amenities such as: seating, gift shop, locker rooms and concessions. Johnson Consulting was hired as an independent expert to provide an economic impact analysis of the proposed St. Louis Ice Center, to help project the likely job and tax creation that would be caused by the proposed development. The project objective was to estimate the economic and fiscal contributions to the existing economies of the City of Maryland Heights, St. Louis County and the State of Missouri.

The economic impact analysis focused on the current, future and incremental impacts for the following: direct, indirect, and induced spending impacts; direct, indirect, and induced employment impacts; direct, indirect, and induced personal income impacts; fiscal impacts including, but not limited to, admissions tax, personal income tax, accommodations fees, sales tax, hospitality tax, and others; and intangible benefits and non-economic benefits including impacts on overall quality of life in the community.
